This beginner-friendly course introduces students to the fundamentals of working on the potter’s wheel in a structured, supportive studio environment. Over six weeks, students learn how to properly wedge and prepare clay, center with confidence, pull consistent cylinder forms, throw foundational bowls, trim leather-hard work, and explore surface decoration and glazing techniques.

By the end of the course, students will complete multiple functional ceramic pieces while building strong technical habits and confidence on the wheel.

Course Includes:

  • 25 lbs of studio clay

  • Full access to professional pottery wheels and tools

  • Bisque and glaze firings

  • Studio glaze selection

  • Scheduled pick-up date for finished work

Optional Add-On: Saturday Open Studio Access

Students may add Saturday Open Studio access (12:00 PM – 6:00 PM) for the duration of their 6-week session for $100.

Open Studio is typically $40 per day, making this a great value for students who want additional practice time outside of class to refine techniques and build confidence independently.

To include Open Studio access, select “Open Studio Access (+$100)” when registering.

Completion of this course at Clayworks is required before enrolling in Intermediate or Advanced courses, unless prior experience is approved by the instructor.
